Bush walk & game drives Today your honeymoon in Tanzania really gets going: you go on a bush walk in the morning and a safari in an open jeep in Arusha National Park in the afternoon. Arusha National Park is an almost forgotten gem among the national parks of northern Tanzania. Hardly any other park is so varied. Blue monkeys and other primates await you right at the entrance. On a clear day, on the horizon you can see Kilimanjaro, about 50 km away, and its little brother, Mount Meru. In addition to a wide variety of bird species, buffalo, waterbuck, warthogs, giraffes, zebras and colobus monkeys can be seen practically all year round. Elephants are seen less often and, with a lot of luck, leopards too. In the evening the two of you enjoy the sunset at the foot of Mount Meru.

After breakfast your honeymoon safari in Tanzania continues towards Lake Manyara National Park. The reserve covers a large part of the soda lake of the same name, which is visited seasonally by huge flamingo colonies and many other waterbirds. On the lake shores you can observe elephants, hippos, buffalo, monkeys, banded mongooses and various gazelles and antelopes. The park became famous for sightings of tree-climbing lions. This behaviour is actually very untypical of lions, but can now also be observed in other parks. Of course, it always takes a good deal of luck to see big cats and especially to spot lions in a tree. After exploring the national park extensively in the afternoon, you continue to your lodge.

After breakfast you continue into the highlands. You drive through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, and as soon as you reach the crater rim, the view opens up into the huge caldera of the Ngorongoro Crater. The interior of the world's largest caldera fascinates with its incredible wealth of wildlife. In the grass steppes and acacia forests you find almost every representative of the East African savannah. It is not unusual to see the Big Five – lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino and leopard – within a few hours. On the drive to your accommodation in the Serengeti, the origin of the name Serengeti becomes impressively clear: it derives from the Maasai word Siringitu and means "the endless plain". The grass savannahs in the southern Serengeti stretch to the horizon and are interrupted only by so-called kopjes, bizarre rock formations. These are the ideal hunting grounds for cheetahs and other big cats. In the late afternoon you reach today's destination.

full-day game drives according to the programme The whole day is available for game viewing in the Serengeti. Depending on the season, you can also watch the great migration of hundreds of thousands of wildebeest and zebras. Usually these herds move during the short rains in October and November from Kenya's Masai Mara through the northern Serengeti to the plains in the south. After the long rains in April, May and June, the herds slowly move back through the western and north-western Serengeti. Fluctuations in rainfall can shift this timetable, however, and the animals may be in other areas. Your guide knows where the animals are and will take you to the best viewing spots. After breakfast you drive from Serengeti National Park back to Karatu, with a last game drive in the vast Serengeti along the way. You leave the Ngorongoro highlands and drive down the escarpment to today's lodge near Karatu.
