    Arusha National Park

    Olerai Lodge

Arusha National Park is a still untouched gem among the national parks of northern Tanzania. Hardly any other park is as varied and green as this one. Blue monkeys and other primates await you right at the entrance. With a bit of luck, on the horizon you can see Kilimanjaro, about 50 km away, and its little brother, Mount Meru. In addition to a wide variety of bird species, on your first safari you can observe buffalo, waterbuck, warthogs, giraffes, zebras and colobus monkeys practically all year round. Elephants are seen less often and, with a lot of luck, leopards too. A great start to your trip to Tanzania! You go on an exciting bush walk in the morning and on game drives in the afternoon. Optional activities in Arusha National Park: Bike tour through the national park, hike on Mount Meru (several days recommended), walk through Ngurdoto Crater, canoe tours on the Momella Lakes – feel free to ask us for details.

    Tarangire View Camp

Your safari continues to Tarangire National Park, where you go on extensive game drives. The national park is particularly impressive in the dry season, when the many animals gather by the river. After a delicious lunch, you take your first game drive in Tarangire National Park in the afternoon. Optional activities in Tarangire National Park: Hot-air balloon flight, bush walk, walk at Lake Burunge – feel free to ask us for details.

  • Day 4
    Tarangire National Park

    Tarangire View Camp

After breakfast you set off on game drives in Tarangire National Park again. Founded in 1970 from former hunting grounds, Tarangire National Park is home to the largest population of wildlife outside the Serengeti ecosystem. The landscape differs greatly from the other parks in northern Tanzania, above all thanks to its large seasonal swamps, seemingly endless wooded savannahs and the legendary giant trees of Africa native here, the baobabs. In the dry season between July and October, Tarangire National Park has more wildlife than Serengeti National Park. On game drives in the park you discover elephants, giraffes, wildebeest and various antelope species such as eland, kudu, kongoni and impala. In addition, around 30,000 plains zebras as well as buffalo, leopards and rhinos roam the area. You end the evening at your cosy camp.

  • Day 5
    Lake Manyara National Park

    Marera Valley Lodge

After breakfast you continue towards Lake Manyara National Park. The reserve covers a large part of the soda lake of the same name, which is visited seasonally by huge flamingo colonies and many other waterbirds. On the lake shores you see elephants, hippos, buffalo, monkeys, banded mongooses and various gazelles and antelopes on your safari. The park became famous for sightings of tree-climbing lions. This behaviour is actually very untypical of lions, but can now also be observed in other parks in Tanzania. After exploring the national park extensively in the afternoon, you continue to your lodge, where a tasty dinner awaits you. Optional activities in Lake Manyara National Park: Tuk-tuk tour or village walk through the village of Mto wa Mbu, visit to the local market, local lunch on a banana plantation, treetop walk in the national park, visit to a coffee plantation – feel free to ask us for details.

  • Day 6
    Serengeti National Park

    Sound of Silence

Today you continue into the highlands. On the drive to your accommodation, the origin of the name Serengeti becomes impressively clear: it derives from the Maasai word Siringitu and means "the endless plain". The landscape you find depends on the season of your visit and on your camp. While the northern Serengeti impresses with green, unspoilt landscapes, the southern Serengeti stuns with endless grass plains – the ideal hunting grounds for cheetahs and other big cats. The central Serengeti, on the other hand, features rocky outcrops (kopjes), gentle hills and wide plains. In the afternoon you reach today's destination. To give you the best possible safari experience, your accommodation on days 6 to 8 of your Tanzania safari follows the great wildebeest and zebra migration: December to March: 2 nights Ndutu Bush Camp, 1 night Baobab Camp April to May: 3 nights Baobab Camp June to mid-July: 2 nights Sound of Silence, 1 night Baobab Camp Mid-July to mid-November: 2 nights Mara Kati Kati Camp, 1 night Baobab Camp Mid-November to December: 3 nights Baobab Camp.

  • Day 7
    Serengeti National Park

    Sound of Silence

The whole day is available for game drives in the Serengeti. Depending on the season, you can also watch the great migration of hundreds of thousands of wildebeest and zebras. Usually these herds move during the short rains in October and November from Kenya's Masai Mara through the northern Serengeti to the plains in the south. After the long rains in April, May and June, the herds slowly move back through the western and north-western Serengeti. Fluctuations in rainfall can shift this timetable, however, and the animals may be in other areas. Your guide knows where the animals are and will take you to the best viewing spots. Overnight as stated on day 6. Optional activities in Serengeti National Park: Hot-air balloon flight, bush walk (depending on the camp) – feel free to ask us for details.

    Ngorongoro Crater

    Baghayo Garden Suites

After breakfast you drive from Serengeti National Park through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. As soon as you reach the crater rim, the view opens up into the huge caldera of the Ngorongoro Crater. The interior of the world's largest caldera fascinates with its incredible wealth of wildlife. In the grass steppes and acacia forests you find almost every representative of the East African savannah. It is not unusual to see the Big Five – lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino and leopard – within a few hours. You leave the Ngorongoro highlands and drive down the escarpment to today's lodge near Karatu.
