A hearty breakfast will prepare you for an exciting day of adventure in nature. An hour northeast of Vientiane lies the mysterious Phou Khao Khouay National Park, known as the "Water Buffalo Horn Mountain" according to local legend. Spanning over 2,000 square kilometers, the park boasts dense forests, wild rivers, and towering waterfalls, providing a habitat for numerous animal species. From Asiatic black bears and peacocks to the rare clouded leopard, there is a stunning diversity to discover. And the flora? More than half of all wild orchids in Laos grow in this protected area, alongside tropical butterflies and fragrant blossoms. In the morning, you will be picked up from your hotel and taken to Ban Hatkhai, a small village on the edge of the national park. Here your mountain bike tour begins. With temperatures still pleasant, you will pedal through breathtaking scenery, constantly accompanied by spectacular views of the Nam Mang and Mekong rivers, until you reach the stunning Tad Xay waterfall. The water cascades down into the valley in several waterfalls: a truly magnificent natural spectacle. After a refreshing swim in its waters, a picnic lunch awaits you. Here you will also have the opportunity to try sweet and sticky Laotian rice, a culinary delight not to be missed. After lunch, a leisurely two-hour hike through the lush jungle will take you to Nam Manh. There, you'll switch to kayaks and paddle downstream back to Ban Hatkhai. In the evening, a traditional dinner awaits you at your host family's home—a delicious introduction to Laotian cuisine. You'll spend the night in a family home, idyllicly nestled in the forest, where you can end the day listening to the sounds of the jungle.

Day 4
Pakse – Dong Hua Sao National Park / Treetop Explorer
tree house
Around 6:00 AM, the overnight bus arrives in Pakse, in southern Laos. After a hearty breakfast, the adventure of a lifetime begins: the Tree Top Explorer tour. With your guide, you'll travel for about an hour to the small village of Ban Nongluang, where you'll have your first glimpse into the authentic culture of southern Laos. The villagers speak little English, but their open nature, friendliness, and warm smiles convey everything that words cannot. Here you'll also meet the guides who will accompany you through the jungle for the next three days. After a thorough explanation of jungle etiquette and equipment safety procedures, you'll be ready to dive into the adventure. Well prepared, the first hike begins: the trail winds through small orchards and sprawling coffee plantations before gently plunging into the evergreen rainforest. You'll soon feel like a true explorer as you traverse paths covered in dense vegetation, passing deep gorges, rushing waterfalls, and flower-strewn plateaus. Along the way, guides explain which plants are traditionally used in cooking or as medicinal herbs. Soon, your first challenge awaits: crossing a river secured with a steel cable—a perfect warm-up for what's to come. Then the real adventure begins: you swing from treetop to treetop on specially designed zip lines. The zip lines traverse deep river valleys and wind between platforms built 15 or 20 meters high in the trees. Secured with carabiners, you glide through the air on thick steel cables. It takes courage at first, but the adrenaline rush is so intense that you'll soon relish every descent. You zigzag through deep gorges, whiz past towering waterfalls, and feel the wind in your face as a raging river carves its way through the canyon hundreds of meters below. After a picnic lunch in the heart of the jungle, you'll have time to explore the surroundings or cool off under a waterfall before arriving at the camp in the afternoon. Located right next to a magnificent waterfall, you'll spend the night in treehouse bungalows, perched about ten meters above the ground on massive tree trunks. Constructed from wood, bamboo, and grass, they follow the traditional Laotian style. Access isn't by stairs, but—as is typical on this adventure—via a zip line to your "room." In the evening, you'll enjoy a delicious barbecue, sample local specialties, and end the day comfortably around a campfire. The gentle swaying of the treehouse, accompanied by the chirping of crickets, will lull you into a deep and well-deserved sleep after a day filled with excitement, nature, and unforgettable experiences.

Day 6
Treetop Explorer – Pakse
The final and most exciting day of your adventure begins with a hike through the breathtaking primeval forest, dominated by majestic sequoia trees. Fortunately, these jungle giants have been largely spared from illegal logging, and the zipline project actively contributes to their protection for future generations. The trail leads you alongside the enormous trunks and ends abruptly at a towering vertical rock face—a moment that inspires awe and awakens a sense of adventure. Here begins a short via ferrata, where iron bolts embedded in the rock provide support. At first glance, this might seem like an adventure, but modern equipment, extra safety ropes, and the attentive guidance of your guides ensure a safe ascent. All it takes is a little courage to overcome this final challenge. At the summit, one of the highest points in the region, a breathtaking panorama unfolds: from the almost barren plateau, on clear days the view stretches across the Mekong River and into the heart of Thailand—a spectacular end to this jungle adventure. After a well-deserved lunch, an easy hike will take you back to Ban Nongluang village in about an hour and a half. There, you'll say goodbye to your guides before beginning your return journey to Pakse. Upon arrival in Pakse, the adventure program officially concludes. From here, you can either begin your journey home or continue your trip by overnight bus to Vientiane or by transfer to Pakse Airport. We'd be happy to help you plan your onward travel arrangements to ensure your Laos experience is a resounding success.
