Day 7
Golden Circle
Thingvellir • Haukadalur • Geysir Strokkur • Gullfoss • Friðheimar Greenhouse • Farewell dinner
On your last day, you'll embark on Iceland's most popular travel route: the "Golden Circle." The first stop is Þingvellir National Park. This national park is where, among other things, Iceland's first historically democratic parliament was founded in 930 AD, laws were passed, and the Republic of Iceland was proclaimed in 1944. You'll visit the Almannagjá fissure, where you can clearly see how the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates have separated. Next on the agenda is the spectacular Strokkur geyser, which regularly erupts with a powerful jet of water. Afterward, the journey continues to the "golden waterfall," Gullfoss, which plunges in two stages into the Hvítá River canyon. Arguably Iceland's most famous waterfall, it has been listed as one of the top 10 waterfalls in the world, and for good reason: approximately 110 cubic meters of water cascade down the 70-meter-deep canyon every second, creating a breathtaking spectacle. To conclude the day, your tour continues to the award-winning Friðheimar greenhouse. Here, everything revolves around tomatoes and other vegetables, and how geothermal energy and artificial lighting are used to grow vegetables year-round. At the end of the tour, you will be served a small, typical drink in a tomato-shaped container. Before heading back to Reykjavík, you'll stop in the coastal town of Eyrarbakki, renowned for its lobster fishing. Here, you'll enjoy a farewell dinner with your tour group, featuring fresh lobster from the local waters. (B/L/D) (Distance: approx. 240 km; Travel time: approx. 3.5 hours)
