Days 2–7
Day trips in the chosen region.
The accommodation planned for the end of the trip will be in a room with shower/toilet near the airport.
At your holiday home, you can enjoy the peace and quiet of the countryside and relax, or explore the surrounding area by rental car. You'll find more information about the different regions further down this page. Region: You have the option Southern Iceland: Discover southern Iceland with its Gullfoss, Seljalandsfoss, and Skógafoss waterfalls, as well as the black sand beaches near Vík. Day trips to Reykjavík, about 1.5 hours away, and a visit to the famous Blue Lagoon (entrance: approx. €115; advance booking required) on the Reykjanes Peninsula are highly recommended. The UNESCO World Heritage Site of Þingvellir National Park is not only geologically fascinating but also of great historical significance. A visit to the active geyser Strokkur is a must. In the fishing villages of Eyrarbakki or Stokkseyri, be sure to visit a restaurant serving culinary delights such as Icelandic lobster tails. The plan is to spend six nights in a holiday home and one night at the end of the trip in a room with shower/toilet near the airport. Example of accommodation: Holiday home in southern Iceland. Western Iceland: Among the most popular natural attractions in the Reykholt region are the Hraunfossar and Barnafoss waterfalls, as well as the Deildartunguhver hot springs. At Langjökull, Iceland's second-largest glacier, a huge ice cave has been carved out and can be visited on a day trip (approx. €194) from Húsafell. The Snæfellsnes Peninsula offers magnificent beaches, dramatic cliffs, and charming fishing villages along the coast. On a clear day, you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the Snæfellsjökull glacial volcano (mentioned in Jules Verne's novel as the entrance to the Earth's center). The Vatnshellir lava cave can be visited year-round (approx. €42). The plan is to spend six nights in a holiday home and one night at the end of the trip in a room with shower/toilet near the airport. Example of accommodation: Holiday home in western Iceland. Northern Iceland: Northern Iceland also has much to offer: Akureyri, the largest city in the north, sits on the beautiful Eyjafjörður fjord and offers not only good shopping but also a ski resort. Take day trips to the fishing villages of Dalvík and Húsavík or marvel at the diverse natural wonders surrounding Lake Mývatn: craters, lava formations, and geothermal areas with bubbling mud pools. A soak in the warm, mineral-rich waters of the Mývatn Nature Baths (entrance approx. €55), surrounded by volcanic rock, is a truly unique experience. Due to the relatively long distance to the north, we booked our first night near Borgarnes in the west and our last in Reykjavík. Example of accommodation: Holiday home in northern Iceland.

Culture / nature
Pure nature
On this road trip, you'll stay in the same cottage in your chosen region (south, west, or north of Iceland) for the entire week. You drive yourself, set your own pace, and decide where to stop along the way. No special fitness level is required; you can easily incorporate short walks to waterfalls, beaches, and viewpoints whenever you like. In winter, snow, ice, storms, and short days demand careful driving, experience driving in winter conditions, and some flexibility. Check the weather forecast and road conditions daily. Pack warm clothing, non-slip winter boots (preferably with studs), and protection from wind and rain. The Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon and cannot be guaranteed.
