Overview

This compact hotel trip leads from Whitehorse into Kluane National Park with the largest non-polar icefield on Earth, along Kluane Lake to Tok, over Thompson Pass to Valdez and by ferry across Prince William Sound to Whittier, Seward and Anchorage.

From the Yukon to the Alaskan coast in just one week: This compact hotel trip takes you through the magnificent Coast Mountains of the north – ideal if you have limited time or want to add it to a longer trip. From Whitehorse, the journey continues to Kluane National Park, home to the largest non-polar glacier area on Earth, where a short guided hike awaits. Along Kluane Lake, keep an eye out for Dall sheep before driving along the Alaska Highway to Tok and then over Thompson Pass to Valdez. A highlight is the ferry ride through Prince William Sound, with its glaciers, sea otters, and perhaps even whales. Passing the fishing town of Seward and the Turnagain Arm, you'll finally reach Anchorage – accompanied by a German-speaking tour guide. All departures are guaranteed.

  • Day 2
    Whitehorse – Haines Junction

    Hotel

Today's short drive takes you west again along the Alaska Highway. Several sights along this stretch invite you to make brief stops before you reach Haines Junction – located at the foot of Kluane National Park – in the early afternoon. Kluane National Park is not only the largest national park in Canada, but it also boasts a diverse array of wildlife and the largest contiguous glacier area on Earth outside of the two poles. To this day, this vast national park remains largely untouched and pristine. Depending on the weather and the group's interests, a guided hike into the national park can be undertaken. Another possible attraction is a flight in a legendary bush plane over the park's impressive glacier landscape, deep into a virtually uninhabited area (optional).

  • Day 3
    Haines Junction – Tok

    Hotel

The journey begins along the picturesque shores of the vast Kluane Lake. Our first stop is planned at the Sheep Mountain Visitor Center. In the surrounding mountains, there's an excellent chance of spotting some of the rare, snow-white Dall sheep. Have your camera ready; these usually very shy animals sometimes come right down to the road! Shortly after, we reach Soldier Summit, where informative panels provide a glimpse into the construction and opening of the Alaska Highway in 1942. We continue along the Alaska Highway and reach the Alaska-Canada border in the afternoon.
