Overview
From Dawson City you travel along the Dempster Highway into Tombstone Park. With tent and backpack you hike to Grizzly Lake, over Glissade Pass and on to Mount Monolith – demanding terrain with steep climbs and wide views across the northern mountain wilderness.
Tombstone Park is a place where you can experience the pristine beauty of the northern mountain wilderness firsthand. Whether you're a hiker or a photographer, you'll be captivated by the tundra with its spectacular vistas, extraordinary landforms, and rugged mountain peaks. Tombstone Territorial Park protects more than 2,200 square kilometers of craggy peaks, tundra, and clear mountain streams in the heart of the Ogilvie Mountains. The park spans the Continental Divide and the Dempster Highway and lies within the Tr'ondek Hwech'in homeland. The mountains are home to one of the largest intact caribou herds, as well as bears, Dall sheep, moose, wolves, falcons, and eagles. With a variety of colorful and delicate Arctic plants and a backdrop of dark, dramatic syenite peaks that give the park its name, this place is a true paradise for photographers. In late August, the Tombstone Mountains display their full splendor, with colors like those from a painter's palette: everything is tinged with rich green, vibrant yellow, bold orange, and deep red. Many consider the Tombstone Valley the most scenic area in the Yukon, and you will hold the secret to unforgettable hikes, countless photographs, and the discovery of this unique wilderness. This adventure is a true backpacking trip through pristine nature that will exceed all your expectations of the Yukon's breathtaking mountain scenery.
