Overview
This trip goes to a part of Canada few visitors see: from the diamond city of Yellowknife on Great Slave Lake past waterfalls carved into ancient rock to Fort Simpson, then via the Liard Highway into the northern Rockies at Muncho Lake and on along the Alaska Highway to Whitehorse.
Waterfalls carved deep into ancient rock, bison by the roadside, and places you might only know from TV series like "Ice Road Truckers": This journey takes you to a part of Canada that few tourists ever see. From the diamond mining town of Yellowknife on Great Slave Lake, the route leads along the waterfalls of the Northwest Territories to Fort Simpson, the gateway to Nahanni National Park. The journey continues along the Liard Highway into the northern Rocky Mountains of British Columbia, home to moose, mountain goats, and bears around Muncho Lake. Following the Alaska Highway, you'll eventually reach the Yukon with its forest of signs at Watson Lake and Whitehorse, before a trip to Skagway in Alaska brings the traces of the Gold Rush to life. A German-speaking tour guide and a small group make these 15 days a relaxed adventure in the true North.
