Overview

For a week your family follows the Lech – from its source on the Arlberg past the Widderstein, Lake Spuller and the Highline179 suspension bridge to the roaring Lech Falls. Family-friendly stages of 8 to 13 km with gravel banks, mountain lakes and plenty of time for your own adventures.

Imagine a river that no one has yet confined to concrete – wild gravel banks, crystal-clear mountain lakes, riparian forests through which the water carves its own path. Your family will follow this last great wild river of the Alps for an entire week: from its icy source high in the Arlberg region to the moment it spectacularly squeezes through a narrow rock gorge near Füssen. Along the way, there will be plenty of free time for individual activities and exciting program highlights, such as the Ehrenberg Castle complex with its spectacular Highline179 suspension bridge. This week is specifically designed for families with teenagers – in groups of no more than 16 people, you and other families will discover the most beautiful spots along the Lech River: scenic high-altitude trails, tranquil mountain lakes perfect for a refreshing dip, expansive river landscapes where you can wade over gravel, and always by your side: your certified mountain guide, who not only knows every path but also shares the stories behind them – from Walser settlements to the last wild rivers in Europe.

Where the Lech River is born

    approx. 12.5 km · ↑ 200 m · ↓ 600 m · Walking time approx. 4 hours

Take the hiking bus to Lake Formarin, one of Austria's most beautiful mountain lakes – emerald green against the rugged backdrop of the Rote Wand mountain, definitely a photo stop. approx. 8 km · almost flat · walking time approx. 3 hours

Today the scenery changes: Between Weißenbach and Pflach, your route leads you right through the expansive Lech meadows – gravel banks, riparian forests, and side channels of the river, as wild and untouched as you'll rarely find in Europe anymore. After the alpine high-altitude trails of the last few days, this is a completely new nature experience, where you'll be walking on gravel instead of hiking paths. The group tour ends in the early afternoon. Those who haven't had enough can add a short extra hike; everyone else is free to spend the afternoon as they wish.
