Notes on the trip
Tulip bloom in Istanbul
The tulip originated in the Pamir Mountains of Asia and was discovered by nomadic Turkic peoples before making its way to the region of present-day Anatolia. From there, it began to gain worldwide recognition in the 15th century. In Turkey, it became an important element of Ottoman art and architecture, inspiring poets and finding its way into religious depictions. The tulip became a significant symbol of the history and identity of the Ottoman Empire. Today, in Turkey, it is not only considered an ornamental plant but also represents love, beauty, and the renewal of spring. On certain spring dates, you can experience a veritable sea of blossoms in Istanbul, especially in Gülhane Park and in front of the famous Hagia Sophia.
