It's often considered an architectural model for the famous Angkor Wat temple complex in Cambodia and many other temples in the region. Since Wat Phou is visited by very few tourists, you can still experience the magical atmosphere of this architecturally and religiously significant site in peace and quiet. After your exploration, the journey continues south to Laos, where the Mekong River fans out into countless islands at an inland estuary. Look forward to a boat trip through the enchanting waterways of Siphandone. During the rainy season, the Mekong expands to an impressive width of up to 14 kilometers, and as the water recedes, countless small islands emerge. Along the way, you'll admire the islands of Done Det and Done Som, which offer an authentic glimpse into the traditional lives of the fishermen. Finally, you'll reach Don Khone Island, where you'll check in.

    Koh Ker – Siem Reap

2 nights in Siem Reap (B/L)

    approx. 120 km / approx. 3 hours

Early in the morning, you begin your journey to the Koh Ker temple. Considered one of the most important temple complexes, it was buried in the jungle for many years and was only recently rediscovered. You'll stop for a hearty lunch at a local restaurant. Another stop on your route towards Siem Reap is Beng Mealea, also known as the Jungle Temple. Built in the 12th century under King Suryavarman II, it shares the same architectural style as Angkor Wat. What makes Beng Mealea so remarkable is its largely unrestored state: collapsed galleries, moss-covered stones, and massive tree roots intertwined with the temple structures give it the feel of a lost temple. Once you arrive in Siem Reap, you can settle into your accommodation at your leisure.

Siem Reap – Tonle Sap – Phnom Penh

2 nights in Phnom Penh (F)

    approx. 320 km / approx. 6 hours

The Tonle Sap is the largest freshwater lake in Southeast Asia. During the rainy season, it regularly expands to four times its size, leaving behind highly fertile floodplains after the water recedes. The inhabitants have adapted perfectly to this fascinating natural phenomenon, building their houses and villages on stilts several meters high or even floating entirely on the lake. Their main source of income also changes with the seasons: fishing predominates during the floods, while after the water recedes, the fertile floodplains are used for rice cultivation. You'll explore the lake area by boat and head towards a nearby floating village. Here you'll gain fascinating insights into the daily lives of the locals who live in the floating huts. In the afternoon, you continue your journey towards Phnom Penh. Along the way, you will also see the Kampong Kdei Bridge, which was once the longest stone arch bridge in the world.
