  • Day 3
    Lake Manyara National Park

    Isoitok Camp Manyara

approx. 30 minutes plus game activities as per programme

After a leisurely breakfast you drive to Lake Manyara National Park. The first safaris of your family trip in Tanzania are waiting for you. The national park is particularly popular for its beautiful and varied scenery. It lies on the soda lake of the same name, Lake Manyara, in the East African Rift Valley and is the ideal destination for a family safari. Elephants in particular feel very much at home in the green forest that runs through the park. The park became famous not only for sightings of tree-climbing lions – with a bit of luck you can also see this in the other national parks. The famous scene from "Out of Africa", in which Redford and Streep fly over a lake full of flamingos, was also filmed here. After a picnic lunch in the national park, you set off on a canoe trip on Lake Manyara. Together with your children, you explore the birdlife and other animals from the water – another highlight of your family holiday in Tanzania. After this eventful day, in the late afternoon you return to your child-friendly lodge, where a delicious dinner awaits you.

  • Day 4
Ngorongoro Crater – Serengeti National Park

    Thorn Tree Camp

approx. 4-5 hours plus game activities

After breakfast your family trip to Tanzania continues into the highlands. You drive through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, which should not be missing from any trip to Tanzania. As soon as you reach the crater rim, on a clear day you will be fascinated by the view into the huge caldera of the Ngorongoro Crater. You spend 5 hours on the crater floor, which delights with its incredible wealth of wildlife. In the grass steppes and acacia forests you find almost every representative of the East African savannah. It is not unusual to see the Big Five – lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino and leopard – and many other wild animals within a few hours. You then continue through Maasailand into the Serengeti. As soon as you leave the highlands, the origin of the name Serengeti becomes impressively clear: it derives from the Maasai word Siringitu and means "the endless plain". The grass savannahs in the southern Serengeti stretch to the horizon and are interrupted only by so-called kopjes, bizarre rock formations. These are the ideal hunting grounds for cheetahs and other big cats. In the late afternoon you reach today's camp in the central Serengeti.

  • Days 5–6
    Serengeti National Park

    Thorn Tree Camp

Game drives according to the programme You spend the whole day discovering the Serengeti on game drives with your family. Depending on the season, you can also watch the Great Migration of hundreds of thousands of wildebeest and zebras. Usually these herds move during the short rains in October and November from Kenya's Masai Mara through the northern Serengeti to the plains in the south. After the long rains in April, May and June, the herds slowly move back through the western and north-western Serengeti. Due to fluctuations in rainfall in recent years, however, this timetable can shift and the animals may be in other areas. Your tour guide knows where the animals are and will take you to the best viewing spots.
