Before continuing south on the Pamir Highway today, we'll make a detour to the spectacular Bartang Valley. It's one of the possible routes across the Pamir Mountains. However, in summer, the upper reaches of the valley are usually impassable for vehicles due to the high meltwater levels. We'll drive into the valley as far as the village of Bartang. Here, a refreshing dip in a waterfall awaits us for lunch, right next to a vast field of petroglyphs. Afterwards, we'll return to the river mouth and continue upstream along the Panj River to the vibrant provincial capital of Khorog – the heart of the Pamirs.

The route crosses several passes well above 4,000 m (including the Ak-Baital Pass at 4,655 m), and we will be traveling at high altitude for several days. Confident riding on loose surfaces, enduro experience, and good physical condition are essential; river crossings and long days of riding are to be expected.
The tour is conducted using rental motorcycles (KTM 690 R / 390 R), with a 4x4 support vehicle transporting luggage. Accommodation is in hotels, simple guesthouses, and yurts, some with shared bathrooms.

Notes on the trip
Motorcycle and equipment
We ride technically sound KTM 690 R motorcycles, which are adjusted beforehand to the participants' height. We provide technical support and spare parts during the tour. All riders must bring their own motorcycle and protective gear, including motorcycle jacket and trousers, helmet, goggles, gloves, and boots. A daypack for personal items, drinks, and snacks is recommended. Temperatures during the trip will fluctuate between 0 and 30 degrees Celsius – appropriate clothing is therefore essential. All participants will receive a detailed packing list with their travel documents. Deposit: The deposit will be fully refunded provided there is no damage to the motorcycle caused by the renter. In the case of damage such as a bent handlebar or broken plastic parts, we will only charge the actual cost of the replacement parts. Normal wear and tear or mechanical defects will not be charged.
Kyrgyzstan Infrastructure
Kyrgyzstan has a poorly developed infrastructure, and the roads are often in bad condition. Weather conditions can cause certain sections of the route to be temporarily impassable, necessitating adjustments to the itinerary. The program described above represents the ideal option and has been designed to reflect the best possible experience. Our travel dates are carefully coordinated with the generally favorable weather conditions in the region at this time of year to ensure you a safe and unforgettable experience.
Kyrgyzstan Climate
Kyrgyzstan is characterized by a dry continental climate with pronounced temperature fluctuations. While summer heat with temperatures up to 45 °C is not uncommon in the south of the country, temperatures in winter often drop below -10 °C, even in lower-lying regions. Sunny weather dominates during July, August, and September – with an average of 250 sunny days a year, Kyrgyzstan offers ideal conditions for outdoor activities. During this time, daytime high temperatures reach around 35°C in Bishkek, approximately 30°C at Lake Issyk-Kul, and a pleasant 15°C at Lake Son-Kul. However, nights cool down considerably, especially at higher altitudes, and even in summer, temperatures in the high mountains can drop close to freezing.
