Day 4
Panama City
Panama Viejo • Old Town • Miraflores-Schleusen
Having already gathered some initial impressions of Panama City over the past few days, you will get to know the capital city even more intensively today. History, city life, and the present day will all be equally emphasized. After breakfast, you'll begin your exploration with a visit to Panamá la Vieja, the archaeological remains of the first Spanish settlement on this site. During the tour, you'll learn about Panama's early importance in trade between continents. Afterwards, you'll drive through the modern districts with views of the striking skyline, before exploring the historic Casco Antiguo on foot. Restored colonial buildings, churches, and small squares characterize the area. There will be plenty of time to observe daily life in the narrow streets and soak up the unique atmosphere of this district. A visit to the fish market offers insights into the daily shopping habits of the locals. Here you can sample a small Panamanian specialty. Finally, you'll return to the Miraflores Locks. Having already experienced the Panama Canal from the water during a lock passage, this offers a complementary perspective. At the visitor center, you'll receive in-depth information about the history and operation of the canal and, with a bit of luck, have the opportunity to observe large cargo ships passing through up close. Throughout the day, your boat will stop at various islands and beaches. At selected spots, you'll have the opportunity to snorkel and explore the underwater world. You can observe coral, tropical fish, and sometimes even sea turtles. There will also be time to relax on the unspoiled beaches or simply enjoy the surroundings. On site, you will receive information about the national park's conservation regulations and its ecological importance. A simple lunch will be served during the excursion. In the afternoon, you will return to Santa Catalina by boat, where you can relax and enjoy the rest of the day. (B/L) Note: Should the weather or sea conditions affect individual program points, the route will be adjusted. The focus will always be on sheltered snorkeling spots and beach stays with the best possible conditions. (Distance traveled: approx. 10 km; travel time: approx. 30 min.)

If you like, you can end the evening in a rooftop bar. Over a cocktail or a non-alcoholic drink (at your own expense), you can take some time to reflect on the impressions of the past few days. During this final moment together, your tour guide will say goodbye. The rest of the evening is yours to enjoy as you wish. Perhaps you'll meet up with fellow travelers for dinner, or you can simply relax and enjoy the last evening of the trip. (F) (Distance traveled: approx. 10 km; travel time: approx. 30 min.)
