Overview

Along the Alaska Highway you travel to Destruction Bay and from there ride your own snowmobile to Ruby Range Lodge in the heart of the Yukon wilderness. You learn trapping and hide tanning, go snowshoeing and try your luck at ice fishing – with a chance of northern lights at night.

Are you looking for a true wilderness adventure far from the everyday? Then this trip to Kluane Lake is just right for you. After a first day in Whitehorse, you'll travel along the Alaska Highway to Destruction Bay and hop on a snowmobile – your destination is the remote Ruby Range Lodge in the heart of the Yukon wilderness. Here you'll immerse yourself in the life of trappers: You'll learn how to set traps and tan hides, hike through untouched landscapes on snowshoes, and try your luck ice fishing for Arctic char or grayling. At night, the stars twinkle – and with a bit of luck, the Northern Lights – over the tranquil land. To conclude your trip, warm up in the Takhini Hot Springs before enjoying a delicious dinner in Whitehorse and reminiscing about the past few days. Your German-speaking tour guide will ensure you don't miss a single story.

Culture / nature

Nature-led

This activity program is designed for healthy travelers with a normal level of fitness and a desire for authentic wilderness living. No prior snowmobiling experience is necessary, but you should be comfortable driving yourself – transportation to and from the lodge is also by snowmobile. Snowshoeing, ice fishing, and the trapper workshop are all possible without prior experience. Even in March, Kluane Lake can get very cold, with temperatures around -20°C and below, as well as wind on the lake. The Ruby Range Lodge is secluded, far from any civilization – simple comfort and flexibility in case of changing weather conditions are part of the experience. With a maximum of 7 participants, you'll be traveling in a very small group. Shared meals at the lodge, mutual support in the snow, and a shared passion for nature will quickly create a strong bond.
