Overview
After a compact theory session on light, aperture and composition you head outside: to the SS Klondike sternwheeler, into Miles Canyon and to a little-known delta of the Yukon River. The highlight is a long photo day around Haines Junction at the gateway to Kluane National Park.
Do you want to not only see the magnificent landscapes of the North, but also capture them exactly as you experienced them? In this four-day photography workshop in Whitehorse, an experienced photographer will show you how to use light, aperture, and composition to take noticeably better photos. After a concise theory session, the trip heads straight outdoors: to the historic paddle steamer SS Klondike, into Miles Canyon, and to a little-known delta of the Yukon River. The highlight is a long day of photography around Haines Junction at the gateway to Kluane National Park – with mountain panoramas, river landscapes, and good chances of spotting bears, elk, or Dall sheep. The workshop is the perfect prelude to a longer trip through Yukon and Alaska – so you can immediately apply what you have learned afterwards at your leisure.

Day 2
Photography basics and Whitehorse
Hotel
We'll begin the morning with the theoretical basics of photography, learning about exposure, aperture, and image noise, and looking at several examples. Armed with this new knowledge, we'll then explore the area around Whitehorse and visit some of the city's highlights. These include the paddle steamer SS Klondike, whose magnificent colors, location directly on the Yukon River, and surrounding landscape make it a fantastic subject for photography. From there, we'll head to Miles Canyon, where we'll photograph the unique features of the water and rock formations at Schwatka Lake. At the end of the day, we'll head to a hidden gem in Whitehorse. At a delta of the Yukon River, we'll have the opportunity to photograph a magnificent landscape and take some truly special pictures using the sunlight.

Day 3
Photo day in the Kluane region
Hotel
Return around 10 pm
Following our introduction to image composition, today we'll venture into the vast wilderness of the Yukon. After an approximately two-hour drive, we'll reach the small town of Haines Junction, the gateway to Kluane National Park. Along the way, the landscape offers numerous spectacular photographic opportunities. Animals such as elk and bears are frequently spotted along the roadside. The increasing expanse and wilderness provide us with perfect opportunities to put the theory we've learned into practice. The Alsek and Dezadeash River valleys present us with an endless panorama of high alpine mountain landscapes, arctic wildflower meadows, and expansive river valleys. Sightings of grizzly bears and Dall sheep are not uncommon today. During our hike, we'll have the opportunity to capture these subjects effectively. We'll repeatedly focus on certain fundamental principles of landscape photography and also deliberately disregard them to observe differences in quality and discover new perspectives. We'll make the most of today, working with the light of the lower sun on the return journey. Our goal is to capture the different moods of the light. Additionally, the chances of spotting wildlife increase as the evening progresses. We'll arrive in Whitehorse around 10:00 PM and spend the night in a hotel.

However, the excursion to the Kluane region is a long day – we'll take advantage of the evening light and won't be back in Whitehorse until around 10 pm.
