Overview

After a day in Whitehorse with the Yukon Wildlife Preserve and hot springs, you travel along the North Klondike Highway to the gold-rush town of Dawson City. There you explore the snowy landscape on two snowmobile tours and on snowshoes, following in the footsteps of the trappers.

Just five days – yet an intense insight into the Yukon winter: On this journey you follow in the footsteps of the trappers and gold seekers from Whitehorse to the legendary gold rush town of Dawson City, traveling back in time some 130 years. After a day in Whitehorse, including a visit to the Yukon Wildlife Preserve and the opportunity to soak in hot springs, the journey continues along the North Klondike Highway to Dawson City. There, you'll explore the vast snowy landscape on two snowmobile tours, trek through the wilderness on snowshoes, and learn about the harsh lives of the trappers. In the evenings, bundle up warmly: On two nights, you'll search for the Northern Lights from Midnight Dome, Dawson's iconic mountain. The return flight to Whitehorse offers one last magnificent view of the snow-covered wilderness.

  • Day 2
    Whitehorse – Dawson City

    Hotel

Today's 6-hour leg of the journey takes us along the Klondike Highway to Dawson City, the famous Klondike Gold Rush town. Dawson City was the legendary destination for over 100,000 gold seekers who began their journey in the spring of 1898. Along the way, we'll be reminded of the era 100 years ago by old post offices, roadhouses, and small towns. You'll also see the mighty Yukon River repeatedly. At nearly 3,200 kilometers, it's one of the longest waterways in North America. Enjoy the expansive views and reflect on what it must have been like to live off this land, what life must have been like for hunter-gatherers out here in the wilderness, because we'll tell you more about that soon.

Culture / nature

Nature-led

This short winter trip is suitable for anyone who is healthy and enjoys being outdoors. No prior experience is necessary for the snowmobile excursions – you will receive instruction on site – and the snowshoe hike is short and leisurely. During the Yukon winter, you should expect temperatures ranging from -20°C to -40°C. Warm, layered clothing is essential, and for Northern Lights viewing, you should be prepared to spend extended periods in the cold, even in the evenings. In a small group of 6 to 8 people, you'll experience the North together and up close. Curiosity about the history of the gold rush, a sense of humor in the face of unpredictable weather, and a touch of adventure will make this trip an unforgettable experience.
