Overview
The Teslin River is a beautiful, quieter alternative to the Yukon. Your guide teaches you paddling technique, navigation and setting up camp, and the lively current gives you a helping hand. Along the way you find relics of the gold seekers and trappers and sleep in a tent on the bank.
Among connoisseurs, the Teslin River is considered the beautiful, quieter alternative to the famous Yukon – and this tour is the perfect introduction to a canoeing adventure in the far north. You don't need any prior experience, just a desire for the wilderness. From Johnsons Crossing, you'll paddle approximately 370 kilometers through the mountainous landscape of the southern Yukon, first on the Teslin River, then on the Yukon River. Your guide will show you how to navigate in the bush, set up camp, and handle your canoe safely. Along the way, you'll encounter relics from the era of gold prospectors and trappers. The Teslin River is rich in fish: grayling and pike often end up on the campfire in the evening. With a bit of luck, bears, moose, or eagles might appear on the banks before the trip ends in Carmacks and you can relax and enjoy the rest of your stay in Whitehorse.

Days 3–9
Canoe trip on the Teslin and Yukon Rivers
Tent
approx. 370 km total
After thorough instruction on canoeing by our tour leader, we spend exciting and varied days in the wilderness of the southern Yukon. First on the Teslin River, and later on the Yukon River, we cover a total of approximately 370 kilometers by canoe. There's never a dull moment, and something new to discover around every bend in the river. A brisk current propels us forward, and the clear waters of the Teslin offer excellent opportunities for fishing for grayling and northern pike, as they are known locally. The area along the Teslin River is also known for its abundant wildlife. The chances of spotting bears or even moose are correspondingly high. Even today, we still encounter relics and remnants of the Yukon's glorious gold rush and trapping era everywhere we go.

This tour is ideal for beginners: paddling or camping experience is helpful, but not required – beginners and advanced paddlers are equally welcome. A basic level of fitness is sufficient; you'll learn the techniques from the guide at the beginning.
In approximately eight days of paddling, you'll cover about 370 kilometers on the Teslin and Yukon Rivers. The swift current provides ample assistance, and there are no technically challenging sections. Loading the canoes and setting up camp each day are all part of the experience.
Sleeping is done in tents in the wilderness without sanitary facilities. Helping out at camp and enjoying the shared experience make the days by the river something special.
