Overview

The Fishermen's Trail from Porto Covo to Odeceixe is one of Europe's most beautiful coastal hikes. On this guided hiking trip you walk from village to village along wide beaches, rugged cliffs and sand dunes, carrying only a daypack, and finish with a city walk in Faro.

This guided hiking tour in Portugal takes us along the Portuguese Atlantic coast, with its expansive beaches, rugged cliffs, and fascinating sand dunes, following the "Rota Vicentina" Fishermen's Trail south to the Algarve. It's no wonder that the Fishermen's Trail from Porto Corvo to Odeceixe is considered one of the most beautiful coastal hiking trails in Europe. If you love the sea and the coast, enjoy a fresh sea breeze, and have discovered hiking as the most wonderful way to travel, then this trip is perfect for you. Starting in Porto Corvo, we hike in five stages, always along the coast. The trail leads us sometimes directly by the sea, sometimes through dunes and small pine forests, and often along the cliffs. Along the way, you'll pass through charming little fishing villages, and the Atlantic Ocean invites you to take a refreshing dip. The Alentejo region has a special atmosphere and is known for its tranquility, as well as its cuisine and wine culture. The people of Alentejo have a unique character, are proud of their traditions and history, but are also modern and engaged. We meet locals who give us a glimpse into their lives, allowing us to gain a truly authentic impression. We stay in small, simple, and privately run guesthouses or hotels. The hikes lead directly from one accommodation to the next, so only a few transfers are necessary during the entire trip. We enjoy the hospitality of the Portuguese people and are captivated by their peace and tranquility. We savor the culinary delights of the local cuisine, which offers something for every palate – including, of course, the delicious wine from the Alentejo region. The trip concludes in Faro, the vibrant capital of the Algarve.

Culture / nature

Pure nature

You should be in good physical condition for this trip. The stages along the Atlantic coast take about 5 to 7 hours. There are hardly any significant changes in altitude, but the paths often lead across sand and dunes, which requires more energy than walking on solid ground.

You hike from place to place and stay overnight in small hotels and guesthouses, usually with shower/toilet. You only carry your daypack. Sunscreen, sufficient water, and well-broken-in hiking boots are essential.
