Overview
On the Caminho Português you walk at your own pace from Porto along the Atlantic coast via Viana do Castelo and A Guarda to Vigo, and on via Pontevedra and Padrón to Santiago de Compostela. Your accommodation is pre-booked and your luggage is transported.
There are many reasons to embark on an individual hiking trip on the Camino de Santiago – one of them being to walk at your own pace. Completely stress-free, you can hike the "Caminho Português," the Portuguese Way of St. James, from Porto to the Spanish border and on to Santiago de Compostela. Your accommodations are pre-booked, and your large luggage will be transported to your next accommodation. A German-speaking service team will be available on-site to assist you with any questions. The journey leads from the wonderful northern Portuguese city of Porto to the equally beautiful Spanish port city of Vigo, and from there on to Santiago de Compostela. The diversity of the stages and landscapes is one of the great fascinations of the Camino de Santiago: wooden boardwalks along the Atlantic coast, green hills and forests in the hinterland, and charming little towns and villages. You can take the route from April to October and choose your starting day freely. A high-season surcharge of 20% applies in July and August.

Day 1
Arrival in Porto
Hotel in Porto or similar
You'll travel independently to Porto and take a comfortable taxi to your first hotel (approx. 30 minutes, approx. €25). Detailed directions will be included with your travel documents. If you have a little more time, it's worth arriving a day earlier. Porto is Portugal's second largest and second most important city after Lisbon. Its impressive old town on the Douro River was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996 – less for the number of its historic buildings than for its overall character, which has evolved over centuries. Today, it's a magnet for visitors and locals alike. In numerous restaurants, you can sample the specialties of Portuguese cuisine and, of course, the typical port wine. It's well worth strolling through the narrow streets and exploring the city.

Day 15
Departure or extension
Breakfast
We recommend that you stay in Santiago for another day and let the hustle and bustle of this fascinating city work its magic on you in peace and quiet while enjoying a café cortado or a good glass of wine. If you don't have time, you can take a taxi (approx. €23) or a bus (€1–2) to the airport and begin your journey home. If you'd like to visit Vigo or Porto again, or fly back from there, you can get there cheaply by bus or train. Or you can hike further to the "end of the world," to Cape Finisterre: Three moderate and one longer day hike (33 km) separate you from what is perhaps the most beautiful sunset in Europe. We would be happy to provide you with a quote.

For this trip, you should be in good physical condition and enjoy hiking for several days in a row. The 13 stages are between 13 and 26 kilometers long and take approximately 3 to 7 hours to complete. There are hardly any significant changes in elevation; the trail follows wooden boardwalks along the Atlantic coast, field and forest paths, small roads, and passes through villages, and is technically easy.
You'll be traveling independently and at your own pace. Accommodation is pre-booked, your luggage is transported daily, and you'll only need a daypack. A German-speaking service team is available by phone 24/7. Well-broken-in hiking boots, rain and sun protection, and sufficient drinking water for the longer stages should be packed.
