Overview
From your hotel in Dresden you hike to the Great and Little Bastei, into Bohemian Switzerland and along royal vineyard paths near Pillnitz. Plus Meissen with its castle, wine and porcelain, and a chocolate tasting tour. Beginner-friendly stages of 10 to 12 km.
From the heights above Graupa, you can already see into Saxon Switzerland. On three hikes, we'll get a glimpse of the beauty of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains. One of our destinations is the Bastei, the region's most famous rock formation. Before the Romantics discovered this place, robber knights roamed here. Saxony is not only Germany's easternmost wine-growing region, but also its smallest. It stretches from Dresden-Pillnitz to Meissen. Pillnitz is particularly famous for its palace, which Augustus the Strong had rebuilt according to his own vision at the beginning of the 18th century. Many small winegrowers also cultivate their vines here. Following the Dresden Wine Trail, we walk with views of the Elbe Valley to Graupa. Here, we have the opportunity to visit the Richard Wagner Museum. During his time as Saxon court conductor, he composed large parts of Lohengrin here. In Meissen, we hike along the Saxon Wine Trail with a constant view of Albrechtsburg Castle, which proudly towers above the old town. Its imposing appearance testifies to the great importance the castle held for the city and the region for a long time.

Day 2
Panoramic tour in Bohemian Switzerland (Czech Republic)
Hotel Dresden City
Approx. walking time 4.5 hours, hiking distance approx. 11 km, ascent 300 m, descent 200 m
The tour begins and ends at the ferry landing in Hrensko/Herrnskretschen in Bohemian Switzerland. We follow an old church path past the abandoned... We leave the village cemetery and hike through the forest to the neighboring village of Janov/Jonsdorf. From the observation tower there, we enjoy a magnificent panoramic view of the table mountains of Saxon-Bohemian Switzerland and the blue Bohemian mountains. Following an unusual hiking trail, we then cross the golf course and might encounter some Bohemian Indians who have set up camp there. A little later, we reach Hutberg with its striking viewpoint via scenic paths. Along the way, we encounter numerous traces of the former inhabitants of the vanished Sudetenland. Our hike ends at the lovingly reconstructed church of Ruzova/Rosendorf. And, as is typical for a Bohemian village, there is a tavern directly opposite the church. With a bit of luck, we can enjoy the wait there before the bus takes us back to the ferry landing.
