Overview
The Pamir is one of the most spectacular and remote high-mountain regions in the world. On this demanding bike tour you ride through the isolated Bartang valley with views of 6,000-metre peaks, across the Pamir plateau to Lake Karakul and into Kyrgyzstan as far as Lenin Peak – with a support vehicle.
The Pamir Mountains are one of the most spectacular and remote high mountain regions in the world. In eastern Tajikistan, this imposing mountain range rises over 7,000 meters into the sky. Breathtaking landscapes, warm encounters with the locals, and an unforgettable mountain bike tour through one of the most isolated areas on earth await you. Experience a challenging mountain bike tour through the impressive Bartang Valley, which will captivate you with its stunning views of the snow-capped 6,000-meter peaks of the Pamir Plateau. Along your journey, you can expect unforgettable encounters with the locals, who will offer you a unique insight into their culture. Our journey begins in Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan. From there, we travel by off-road vehicle along the legendary Pamir Highway to Rushan. From here, we hop on our bicycles and embark on eight challenging stages through the spectacular Bartang Valley until we reach Lake Karakul, situated at an altitude of 4,020 meters. After crossing the border into Kyrgyzstan, the tour continues to the foot of the majestic Pik Lenin (7,134 m), where we spend the night in traditional yurts. We then travel by car to Osh, a historic city on the ancient Silk Road. Throughout the entire tour, we will be accompanied by an experienced team who will transport our luggage in 4x4 vehicles and provide us with delicious meals. You will hike with a light daypack, and if necessary, you can also cover sections of the route in the support vehicle. Since the water level of many rivers can fluctuate, we travel via the Wakhan route in July and via the Bartang route through the Pamir Mountains at the end of August/September. Both routes offer a similar character and level of difficulty and promise unforgettable experiences.

Very high
Culture / nature
Pure nature
In most groups, participants have varying levels of fitness and riding skills. However, this isn't a problem – we adapt to the circumstances! Ambitious riders can lead for many sections, while the tours are designed so that even at a slower pace, each stage is reached in time for dinner. In case of emergency, there's the option of switching to the support vehicle.
Endurance: high
The tour places high demands on physical fitness due to the climatic conditions and especially the altitude. Good stamina is required, as some stages are up to 100 km long. On several days, we will be at altitudes of over 4,000 meters. Due to the extreme climatic conditions, the high altitude, and the sometimes challenging trail conditions, our participants perceive the stages as significantly more strenuous than comparable routes in the Alps. The tour's itinerary allows for gradual acclimatization to the altitude.
Riding technique: easy
The tour is technically manageable. Approximately 30% of the route is on paved roads, while 70% is on gravel tracks, some of which contain scree and sand.

Notes on the trip
Active group tour
An active group trip can be an enriching experience, but it also requires adaptability and a willingness to compromise. The abilities of the other participants may differ from yours. You may need to step outside your comfort zone or adjust your expectations so that the group can enjoy the trip together. Often, you will share unforgettable moments with like-minded people and forge new friendships.
Program adjustments depending on weather conditions
The safety of our participants is our top priority on our active tours. Since we often travel in alpine or remote regions, weather conditions such as strong winds, fog, persistent rain or snowfall, as well as other unforeseen circumstances, can affect the execution of the planned route. In such cases, our experienced local guide will react flexibly and adjust the route or program accordingly to ensure the safety of everyone involved. These decisions are always made in the best interests of all participants, so that the tour remains safe and as enjoyable as possible. Any claims for compensation are excluded in such cases.

Kyrgyzstan Infrastructure
Kyrgyzstan has a poorly developed infrastructure, and the roads are often in bad condition. Weather conditions can cause certain sections of the route to be temporarily impassable, necessitating adjustments to the itinerary. The program described above represents the ideal option and has been designed to reflect the best possible experience. Our travel dates are carefully coordinated with the generally favorable weather conditions in the region at this time of year to ensure you a safe and unforgettable experience.
Kyrgyzstan Climate
Kyrgyzstan is characterized by a dry continental climate with pronounced temperature fluctuations. While summer heat with temperatures up to 45 °C is not uncommon in the south of the country, temperatures in winter often drop below -10 °C, even in lower-lying regions. Sunny weather dominates during July, August, and September – with an average of 250 sunny days a year, Kyrgyzstan offers ideal conditions for outdoor activities. During this time, daytime high temperatures reach around 35°C in Bishkek, approximately 30°C at Lake Issyk-Kul, and a pleasant 15°C at Lake Son-Kul. However, nights cool down considerably, especially at higher altitudes, and even in summer, temperatures in the high mountains can drop close to freezing.
