Overview

This spectacular trek takes you through diverse climate zones – from snow-capped peaks and Humantay Lake to cloud forests and coffee and banana plantations. The highlight is the Salkantay Pass with its views of the 6,271-meter-high Salkantay mountain, before you reach Machu Picchu via Llactapata.

Combine two of Peru's most spectacular routes in one journey. Over six days, you trek from the glaciers of the Salkantay range to the Classic Inca Trail and follow it all the way to Machu Picchu. The adventure starts at the turquoise Humantay Lake, fed by the hanging glaciers of Humantay Mountain, and leads over the Inkachiriaska Pass at 5,160 m / 16,929 ft in the shadow of the mighty Salkantay. Through the Pampacahuana Valley and past the Inca site of Paucarcancha, you reach Wayllabamba, where the route joins the Classic Inca Trail. From there, you cross Dead Woman's Pass, pass numerous Inca sites in the cloud forest and finally enter Machu Picchu through the Sun Gate. On the way, you pass through diverse ecological zones and experience the rich biodiversity of the region as well as the ingenious stonework of the Incas. Horsemen, porters and our chef take care of your equipment and meals, so you can fully enjoy the journey.
