Overview
From Bishkek you ride up into the green high pastures of the nomads in the Tien Shan mountains. In eight varied stages you cycle via Kochkor and the Chaar Archa valley to the mountain lake Son Kul, on to Naryn and through the Kapchygay gorge up to the Tosor Pass.
On a world map, Kyrgyzstan appears as a tiny dot in the vastness of Central Asia, on the fringes of the former Soviet Union. Yet, this country has inherited one of the most breathtaking and beautiful parts of the once-powerful empire. The Tian Shan Mountains, the "Heavenly Mountains," dominate Kyrgyzstan with peaks that rise to 7,400 meters. This trip promises an unforgettable mountain biking experience! From the vibrant capital, Bishkek, we'll ascend to the lush grasslands of the nomads. Over eight stages, we'll discover pristine mountain landscapes and enjoy picturesque trails that wind through vast meadows. Our route takes us over numerous mountain passes at altitudes of over 3,000 meters, from the glaciers of the majestic Tian Shan Mountains to Issyk-Kul, the second largest mountain lake in the world. On the final day, a relaxing end awaits: crystal-clear waters and sandy beaches invite you to swim and unwind.

Day 3
Kochkor – Chaar Archa Tal (2,300 m)
Cámping
75 km, 1360 m ascent
After a hearty breakfast, we set off on one of the longest stages of our trek. The gentle slope of the path allowed us to gradually acclimatize to the altitudes that awaited us in the coming days. The expansive Kochkor Valley, crisscrossed by sandy and gravel tracks, impressed us with its traditional agriculture and the majestic mountains that frame it. After more than 30 kilometers, we leave the vast plains behind and enter the main, barely traveled road that leads us to the Kyzart Valley. Here begins the most demanding climb to the Chaar Archa Pass. Upon reaching the summit, we are rewarded with a magnificent view of both valleys, a true highlight of the stage. The final stretch offers pure cycling pleasure: an 8-kilometer descent through wide meadows and a flowing trail that finally leads us to the valley floor, where our first campsite is located.

Jyluu Suu – Paso Tosor (3,889 m) – Issyk Kul (1,620 m)
Introduce
71 km, 1100 m ascent
The most exciting stage of our trek brings us ever closer to the imposing glaciers of the Tian Shan Mountains. We cross the Üch Emchek Valley, passing grazing yaks, and gradually gain altitude. The final, steep climb takes us to Tosor Pass, the highest point of our journey at 3,893 meters. There, directly in front of the glacier, we enjoy a quick snack and change our clothes before the next high point awaits. Ahead of us stretches a spectacular 37-kilometer descent to Lake Issyk-Kul. Initially, a technical scree trail leads us down, then it transforms into a gravel track and finally a picturesque path through meadows, offering breathtaking views of the lake. We'll stop for lunch halfway down to enjoy the magnificent vista of Issyk-Kul's crystal-clear waters. The descent continues along varied trails and paths, with an ever-changing landscape: from wooded slopes to strange gorges of reddish and yellow sandstone. Finally, we reach our destination: Lake Issyk-Kul, whose sandy beaches and crystal-clear waters invite us for a well-deserved swim. Afterward, we continue by vehicle to Yeti-Oguz, about 80 kilometers away, where we spend the night in the cozy cabin of our guide, Tilek.

Day 10
Relaxing at Yeti Oguz
Introduce
Today we treated ourselves to a relaxing day at our charming accommodation and took the opportunity to visit the nearby rock formation "Yeti Oguz," which means "Seven Bulls." These striking red rocks, which probably once resembled the bulls depicted, are now eleven enormous boulders that create a fascinating contrast with the lush green valley. The provincial capital, Karakol, is also nearby. There's much to discover there: the lively bazaar, the famous Dungan wooden mosque, the Orthodox church, and the historical museum are just a few of the places worth visiting. Uyghur cuisine is highly recommended, especially the dish "Ashlamfu," which is very popular in Karakol. Those who wish can also visit Lake Issyk-Kul and relax there. Today we'll spend it at our own pace, according to our own desires and needs.

Culture / nature
Pure nature
Our groups typically include cyclists with varying fitness levels and experience, which is perfect: we design the routes so everyone can participate! On some days, we offer longer rides and alternative routes for more ambitious cyclists, adapting to their different needs.
The stages are planned to be completed in time for dinner, even at a leisurely pace. If needed, you can always switch to our support vehicle. You'll have plenty of time to take photos or enjoy the scenery. Good physical condition is required for this route, as stages of up to 90 km will be covered. Since we'll be at altitudes above 3,000 meters for several days, even shorter distances can be more demanding than similar stages in the Alps.
This route isn't designed as a competitive race. There's plenty of time to rest, take photos, or even push your bike if a climb is too steep. Technically, the route is easy. Only the second and eighth stages have short, slightly more demanding sections, but these can easily be walked. The remaining narrow trails or more challenging descents can be easily bypassed by using gravel paths for less experienced cyclists.

Notes on the trip
Climate of Kyrgyzstan
Kyrgyzstan is characterized by a dry continental climate with marked temperature fluctuations. While summer heat, with temperatures reaching up to 45 °C, is not uncommon in the south of the country, winter temperatures often drop below -10 °C, even in the lower-lying regions. Sunny weather prevails during July, August, and September; with an average of 250 sunny days a year, Kyrgyzstan offers ideal conditions for outdoor activities. During this period, daytime highs reach 35°C in Bishkek, approximately 30°C at Lake Issyk-Kul, and a pleasant 15°C at Lake Son-Kul. However, nights are considerably cooler, especially in higher altitude areas, and even in summer, temperatures in the high mountains can drop to near freezing.
Kyrgyzstan's infrastructure
Kyrgyzstan has underdeveloped infrastructure and roads are often in poor condition. Weather conditions can make some sections of the route temporarily impassable, requiring itinerary changes. The program described above is the ideal option and has been designed to offer you the best possible experience. Our travel dates are carefully coordinated with the region's generally favorable weather conditions at this time of year to guarantee a safe and unforgettable experience.
Program adjustments based on weather conditions.
The safety of our participants is our top priority on our adventure trips. Since we often travel through alpine or remote regions, weather conditions such as strong winds, fog, rain, or persistent snow, as well as other unforeseen circumstances, may affect the planned route. In these cases, our experienced local guide will react flexibly and adjust the route or program as needed to ensure the safety of all participants. These decisions are always made with everyone's well-being in mind, so that the excursion is safe and as enjoyable as possible. In these cases, any claim for compensation is excluded.
