  • Day 2
    Delhi

    1 night in Delhi

Welcome to Delhi! Upon arrival, you will be met and transferred to your first accommodation, where you can spend a relaxing morning. If you land before 3 a.m., an extra night in the hotel is included; if you arrive on a later flight, you may be able to start your program directly. Look forward to a day full of vibrant impressions and encounters. You'll travel by comfortable minibus to the Jama Masjid, located just above the old city. The Jama Masjid (short photo stop) will give you a first glimpse of the sublime beauty and majestic splendor of many of India's sacred buildings. From here, you'll continue on foot. Stroll leisurely through the alleyways while your guide shares stories and insights into daily life in the capital. You'll quickly notice: the narrower the alley, the fewer travelers you'll meet – and that's precisely what makes your time in Old Delhi so special. You'll make your way deeper and deeper into the labyrinth of lanes, past women in colorful saris, rattling auto-rickshaws alongside state-of-the-art electric vehicles, and fragrant street food stalls. You'll take frequent short breaks to let the impressions sink in. Then you'll switch to a bicycle rickshaw and ride through the widening streets to the Red Fort, a remarkable landmark known for its magnificent architecture and historical significance. Have your camera ready. Leaving the old town, we head into the government district. Here, the streets become boulevards, and you'll make brief stops, including at India Gate and the famous Mahatma Gandhi statue. Your tour guide will explain the background of Gandhi and India's great independence movement. Everywhere you go, you'll encounter different religions – Hinduism and Islam, but Sikhism is also significant in India. To learn more about it, you'll visit the traditional Sikh temple Shri Bangla Sahib. Upon entering, you'll participate in some of the worshippers' rituals: covering your head and washing your hands and feet. You'll first enter a courtyard and then the inner temple area, which you can easily find by following the spiritual chants. Take your time and let the spirituality of the place wash over you. Afterward, your guide will show you a huge dining hall in an adjacent building, where all worshippers and visitors are welcome and invited to a hot or cold meal. In the communal kitchen, you'll learn firsthand how and why this free meal and this place of gathering are so important. Just in time for the golden hour, a special photo opportunity awaits you: the Qutab Minar, a 12th-century victory tower and UNESCO World Heritage Site. After this exciting start to your day in bustling Delhi, you'll return to your accommodation and reflect on the day's experiences.

Culture / nature

Pure culture

The tour does not require any special athletic abilities. A normal level of fitness is sufficient for city walks and sightseeing. Expect long driving days of up to approximately 400 km, as well as heat and busy cities.

Openness to a completely different culture is important.
