On this 16-day tour, you'll experience Chile from the Atacama Desert in the north to Patagonia in the south. You'll explore vibrant Valparaíso with its hills and funiculars, visit a family-run winery, watch the sunset in the Valle de la Luna, and witness the El Tatio geysers at sunrise. Day 3
Drive to the coast to Valparaíso
1 night in Valparaíso
approx. 120 km / approx. 2 hrs
Today you'll travel to the Pacific coast to Valparaíso, one of Chile's most extraordinary cities. After a relaxing drive, you'll arrive in the colorful port city, make a brief stop at the hotel, and then explore the city together. Today you'll explore on foot, climbing the characteristic hills for which Valparaíso is famous. The route is a constant up and down, but the effort is well worth it: colorful house facades, creative street art, and narrow alleyways define its unique charm. You'll also take several rides on the historic funicular railways, which have been a defining feature of the cityscape for over a century. Together you'll explore the most important neighborhoods and viewpoints, such as Cerro Alegre, Cerro Concepción, Paseo Yugoslavo, and Plaza Sotomayor. A visit to the port is also included. Afterward, there will be time for lunch on your own – perhaps in one of the small restaurants in the hilltop city or with coffee and cake in a cozy cafeteria. You can spend the afternoon as you wish: relax at the hotel or get active again. Your tour guide will be happy to give you suggestions – popular options include the Museo de la Migración (Migration Museum) or the neighboring cultural center (optional, bookable on site). Alternatively, you can stroll through craft shops and galleries, or in the early evening walk up to the Dissident Cemetery, which often offers beautiful views. For the evening, your tour guide will recommend various local establishments, from small bars to stylish restaurants overlooking the bay. (F)

Geysers of El Tatio
approx. 170 km / approx. 4 hours
Today it's an early start. Before daybreak, you'll leave San Pedro and drive up into the Andes, into the silence and cold of the early morning hours. Up on the high plateau, one of the region's most impressive natural spectacles unfolds: the El Tatio geysers. As the first rays of sunlight climb over the mountains, countless columns of steam rise from the earth, transforming the landscape into a surreal sea of steam. After you've had ample time to explore and photograph the scenery, the trail slowly descends back towards San Pedro. Along the way, the light and landscape are constantly changing. Back in town, the afternoon is free for relaxation and a leisurely lunch. Those who wish can join the tour guide for a short walk: through the dusty alleys, past mud houses, and to the craft market with its ceramics, woven goods, and jewelry made from volcanic rock. In the evening, provided the nights are dark enough and it's not a full moon, there's the opportunity to participate in a professional stargazing tour (optional, bookable on site). The Atacama Desert offers some of the clearest nights in the world. (F)

Upon arrival on Chiloé, the journey continues across the gently rolling island. Colorful wooden houses, grazing sheep, and churches traditionally clad in the Shingle style characterize the rural scenery. Depending on the time of your domestic flight, you will reach Castro in the late afternoon or evening. The island's capital is known for its colorful stilt houses, the palafitos, which stand photogenically over the water. (F)

This tour is suitable for healthy travelers with a reasonable level of fitness. The hikes and walks, for example in the Atacama Desert and Torres del Paine National Park, will be adapted to the group's fitness level. In the Atacama, you'll sometimes be hiking at altitudes of over 4,000 meters, such as at the El Tatio geysers, which can be strenuous. In addition, there are several domestic flights and long driving days. In Patagonia, you should expect wind and rapid weather changes.
