Overview
The helicopter drops you in the heart of the mountains at Azure Lake. From there you hike for four days through trackless terrain to the Syenite Lakes, Divide Lake and ridges above the West Blackstone River – carrying 15–18 kg packs. An expert tour for sure-footed, experienced mountain hikers.
Rugged black peaks, tranquil mountain lakes, and endless tundra: Tombstone Territorial Park is rightly called the "Patagonia of the North." On this hiking trip, you'll fly by helicopter right into the heart of these mountains and set up your base camp on the shores of Azure Lake. From there, you'll spend four days exploring the valleys and ridges around Tombstone Mountain – for example, to the Syenite Lakes, Divide Lake, or to a ridge high above the West Blackstone River. Here, the Arctic tundra extends southward further than anywhere else, and with a bit of luck, you might encounter caribou, Dall sheep, or rare bird species. Back in Dawson City, you'll be immersed in the time of the Klondike Gold Rush: with visits to the cabins of Jack London and Robert Service, the legendary Discovery Claim, and an evening in the saloon "Diamond Tooth Gerties".

This tour is classified as challenging (expert difficulty level). You should have sure footing, stamina, and mountain experience, and be able to manage several consecutive full-day hikes in trackless terrain – over passes, ridges, and through tundra. A multi-day backpack is mandatory: equipment and provisions will be divided among all participants, each backpack weighing approximately 15-18 kg. We will avoid the long hike into the mountains thanks to a helicopter shuttle to the base camp at Azure Lake. At base camp, you'll sleep in a two-person tent with no comforts, and the weather in the Ogilvie Mountains can change rapidly, even in August. Cooking, camp chores, and making decisions on the trail are all teamwork – a sense of community and flexibility are essential.
