Overview
After a training day on calm water you paddle down the Athabasca River to Whitecourt with your guide and group – through endless forests and over small rapids. In the evening you camp on the bank and cook over an open fire. For beginners with basic skills and experienced canoeists.
Wide rivers, endless forests, and a feeling of freedom – this canoe trip on the Athabasca River takes you right into the heart of the Canadian wilderness. Together with your guide and the group, you'll paddle in open canoes through a landscape that seems unchanged for millennia. By day, you'll glide along the clear water, navigate small rapids, and enjoy the tranquility of nature. In the evenings, you'll set up camp on the riverbank, cook over an open fire, and experience the magic of nights under the stars – perhaps even with the Northern Lights. The tour combines activity with pure enjoyment of nature: traveling like the fur traders and adventurers of old, immersing yourself in the unspoiled nature of Canada and sharing unforgettable moments – between the crackling of a campfire, the sound of a river and the special feeling of being far away from everyday life.

Days 2–4
Athabasca River
Tent
5-6 hours paddling time
Everything you don't need for this trip stays safely behind on the bus – you only take the essentials with you on the river. You'll spend the next three days immersed in the wilderness: setting up camp on small islands or idyllic riverside spots, always with a view of the majestic Canadian landscape. The average daily paddling time is five to six hours, depending on the weather and water level. Early in the season, the glacial river carries you powerfully with high water levels, while in autumn it is calmer, clearer, and more serene. Both faces of the river have their own unique charm. As you glide along in your canoe, pristine nature unfolds before you: With a bit of luck, you might spot wild geese, beavers, majestic eagles, bears, or even a moose grazing on the banks. Sometimes you glide along calmly and almost silently, sometimes you navigate small rapids, and sometimes you have to pull the boat across shallow areas – all part of the adventure. But the days aren't all about paddling: there's always time for swimming in the clear water, fishing, exploring the shoreline, or simply marveling at the silence. In the evening, a crackling campfire awaits under the open sky – perhaps even with the magic of the Northern Lights above. Stories are shared, the embers warm you, and the starry sky seems endless. An important part of this tour is the principle of "Leave no trace": You will learn how to move through nature with respect and mindfulness, leaving only footprints in the sand – traces that will disappear with the next rain. These days are more than just a canoe trip – they are a break from everyday life, a return to simplicity and an invitation to experience the wilderness of the Athabasca River with all your senses.
