Overview

This long-distance hiking week leads from Lake Formarin past the Freiburger Hütte and Lake Spuller to Warth, then through the Tyrolean Lech Nature Park into the Allgäu. Seven varied stages through Vorarlberg, Tyrol and Bavaria with Walser villages, alpine pastures and a Lech Valley cheese dairy.

This varied week of hiking takes us through some of the most beautiful mountain and river landscapes in Vorarlberg, Tyrol, and the Allgäu region. From the Arlberg area through the Tyrolean Lech Nature Park to Füssen in Bavaria, we experience impressive high mountain panoramas, traditional Walser villages, and pristine natural landscapes. The hike begins around the picturesque Formarinsee, considered one of Austria's most beautiful spots. Passing the Freiburger Hütte mountain hut and with views of the Rote Wand mountain, we hike through alpine valleys where, with a bit of luck, we might spot ibex. Further stages lead us from the turquoise Spullersee lake to the idyllic Ravensburger Hütte mountain hut and down into the Lechtal valley via scenic mountain passes. A special focus of the trip is on Walser history: We hike along historical trails from Oberlech to Bürstegg, the oldest Walser settlement, and on to Warth. High alpine passes, expansive alpine meadows, and scenic high-altitude trails – for example, to the Widderstein Hut – characterize the following days. In the Tyrolean Lech Nature Park, we experience a striking contrast in landscape: one of the last largely untouched wild river landscapes in Europe, with species-rich floodplains, tranquil side channels, and impressive opportunities for observing nature. Culinary insights, such as a visit to a Lechtal cheese dairy, round off the experience. Finally, we cross the border into Bavaria. The last leg leads past Alpsee, Schwansee and Lechfall with views of the royal castles of Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau to the old town of Füssen – a fitting end to this enjoyable and nature-filled week of hiking. The daily stages are easily manageable, with bus support and alternative routes available if needed. Comfortable accommodations, breathtaking landscapes, and the shared experience of hiking together make this trip an intense mountain adventure with a lasting impression.

Culture / nature

Nature-led

Our long-distance hiking week in this impressive region is manageable for healthy people with a reasonable level of fitness. We primarily hike on established paths and well-marked trails. Good stamina is necessary to complete the seven daily stages without difficulty and fully enjoy the natural surroundings.

The difficulty level of our hikes is classified as "moderate." It is important that you already have experience with hikes lasting several hours in low mountain ranges at altitudes of around 2,000 meters. The maximum hiking time per day, without breaks, is approximately 6 hours. Some hikes require a bit more skill, as they involve steeper descents over uneven terrain.

We recommend using hiking poles for these sections.

Should you feel the need to skip a stage, you can easily take a "rest day" at the accommodation to relax or enjoy other activities.

Our experienced mountain guides reserve the right to make changes to the program in the event of unforeseen weather conditions to ensure the safety of the group and individual participants. Furthermore, participants who lack the necessary physical fitness or tour-appropriate equipment may be excluded from individual stages or the entire trip for safety reasons. In such cases, there is no entitlement to a refund.

Notes on the trip

Additional nights before and after the hiking week

Upon request, we also offer additional overnight stays in our partner hotels before or after the hiking week (subject to availability). We recommend extending your stay in the beautiful surroundings of Reutte, as the group transfer only takes place on the arrival day together with the other guests. This gives you the opportunity to enjoy the breathtaking scenery and the diverse activities in the region at your leisure!

Program adjustments depending on weather conditions

The safety of our participants is our top priority on our active tours. Since we often travel in alpine or remote regions, weather conditions such as strong winds, fog, persistent rain or snowfall, as well as other unforeseen circumstances, can affect the execution of the planned route. In such cases, our experienced local guide will react flexibly and adjust the route or program accordingly to ensure the safety of everyone involved. These decisions are always made in the best interests of all participants, so that the tour remains safe and as enjoyable as possible. Any claims for compensation are excluded in such cases.

Parking during the hiking week

You can park your car free of charge at parking lot P1 (Mühlerstraße 36, 6600 Reutte), near Reutte train station, during the hiking week. Our shuttle will take us back there before we check into the last hotel, so you can take your car and park it at the hotel.

Minimum number of participants

Should the minimum number of participants (9 people) not be reached, we will offer you an alternative date or free cancellation of the trip no later than 3 months before the start of the trip.

Four-legged friends

Unfortunately, our four-legged friends have to stay home during this hiking week.
