Overview
From Arenas de Cabrales you explore Spain’s oldest national park: the Vanu pastures, the summit of Pandescura, the famous Ruta del Cares through its gorge and the Peña Main. Limestone peaks, green valleys and old mining paths – five hiking days at a moderate level.
The Picos de Europa, Spain's third-highest mountain range, lie just a few kilometers from the Atlantic Ocean and captivate visitors with their impressive limestone peaks and lush, green valleys. The range stretches across the provinces of Asturias, Cantabria, and León. The Picos de Europa National Park is not only the oldest but also the second-largest in Spain, and large parts of it are protected as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Especially in spring, when the valleys are carpeted with wildflowers, the region is known as "Green Spain"—a true paradise for hikers and nature lovers. The landscape here is rugged, inaccessible, and teeming with life. Chamois, golden eagles, griffon vultures, and other impressive animals are frequently encountered. With a keen eye, one might even spot bears, wolves, or wild boar in this untamed wilderness. You'll be staying at the friendly, family-run Hotel Torrecerredo, right in the heart of the region. From the inviting bar and restaurant, you can enjoy breathtaking views of the highest peaks – and there are more than 60 of them in the Picos de Europa, reaching heights of over 2,500 meters. Here you'll find a diverse range of hikes and walks, connecting spectacular gorges like the famous Ruta del Cares, idyllic mountain villages in the valleys of Green Spain, and an incredibly rich wildlife. A paradise for active vacationers who want to experience nature, the mountains, and local traditions up close.

Hotel
Walking time approx. 7 hours, hiking distance approx. 24 km, ascent 550 m, descent 550 m
