Overview
With lush green landscapes, extinct volcanoes, crater lakes and waterfalls, the Azores are a special hiking destination. On ten guided hikes you explore the central islands of Faial, Pico and São Jorge – from Horta via the cliffs and fajãs of São Jorge to the ascent of Pico at 2,351 metres.
The Azores hiking trip takes us to a special archipelago in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. It's a unique destination for hiking enthusiasts and nature lovers. With its lush green landscapes, extinct volcanoes, deep crater lakes, and fantastic waterfalls, the Azores offer an extraordinary setting for a special hiking holiday. The central islands of Faial, Pico, and São Jorge, in particular, reflect the diversity of the archipelago and leave nothing to be desired for hikers. A hiking trip in the Azores combines perfectly organized tours with deep insights into the local nature and culture. Experienced guides lead us along carefully selected routes to the highlights and lesser-known spots of the islands. This allows you to simply immerse yourself in the breathtaking beauty of nature. At the same time, there is also time and space for individual exploration and relaxation. Faial: The "blue island" enchants visitors with its hydrangeas, rolling hills, and the impressive volcanic landscape of Capelinhos. A stroll along the Horta marina and a drink at the famous "Peter Café Sport" are a must. São Jorge: This island is a paradise for hikers seeking seclusion and unspoiled nature. Steep cliffs, rushing waterfalls, and the fertile coastal plains provide a stunning backdrop for diverse activities. Pico: This volcanic island is home to Portugal's highest mountain. The climb to the 2,351-meter summit is challenging but rewarded with a magnificent view across the archipelago. The local vineyards on lava soil (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) are also something special. Naturally, we will also taste this unique wine.

Pico ascent: 7 hours, +/-1100 m elevation gain
The climb to Portugal's highest mountain (Pico, 2351 m) is strenuous, but one of the most impressive experiences of this trip. The hike starts at an altitude of approximately 1200 m. Upon reaching the summit, the view stretches across the clouds and the sea, and on a clear day, extends to the neighboring islands of Faial and São Jorge. For those who find the climb too demanding, there is the option of an easier, equally scenic hike around Lajes or simply enjoying the day at one of the charming swimming spots in this fishing town.
