Overview
For two weeks you explore the Lofoten and Vesterålen with an experienced guide who knows almost every path in the region. You hike to the Rødhamran mountains, along the Queen's Route from Nyksund to Stø, up Matmora and Djupfjordheia, and visit fishing villages such as Henningsvær and Reine.
This walking tour of the Lofoten Islands is a true classic and has been one of our most popular tours in Scandinavia for years. For two weeks, you'll explore the Lofoten and Vesterålen archipelagos with us, accompanied by an expert guide who knows virtually every trail in this stunning region. With great enthusiasm and profound knowledge, he will introduce you to the unique charm of this island world bathed by the North Atlantic. You will discover rugged peaks and breathtaking mountain landscapes, the open sea, idyllic bays, pristine sandy beaches, and a captivating natural environment. During the summer solstice, the sun barely sets, bathing the islands in a magical light throughout the night that you will never forget. It's especially beautiful when we break from our daily routine and take one of our nighttime walks. You don't need a headlamp for this: the soft light of the midnight sun creates an atmosphere that we can only experience for brief moments at dawn and dusk. Our day trips follow well-marked and well-trodden trails, but also sheep tracks, pathless terrain, and occasionally scree slopes. Therefore, it's essential to be comfortable with heights and have good balance. In return, you'll enjoy spectacular views of rugged and romantic mountains and turquoise beaches in secluded valleys. In addition to excursions, there's also time to explore the Lofoten countryside. This trip is the perfect combination of enjoying nature, staying active, and experiencing Nordic charm.

Day 1
Evenes - Nyksund
3 hours
Welcome to Norway! Your adventure begins here, and your guide will be waiting for you at 3:00 PM at Evenes Airport. Together, we'll travel by car for about three hours northwest to our first accommodation in the small coastal town of Nyksund. Nyksund is located at the northern tip of Langøya Island and is accessible via a partially paved, partially gravel road. The route passes through Hinøya, Norway's second largest island, and immediately offers a first glimpse of the diverse landscape of the north: stunning fjords, tranquil lakes, snow-capped peaks like Møysalen, and finally, Sortland with its many blue houses. Nyksund will be our first home for the next four nights. The village was abandoned for a long time, but in recent years it has been carefully restored. Today, a very special atmosphere awaits us here on the rugged coast of the Vesterålen islands.

Day 4
Hike along the Queen's Trail from Nyksund to Stø
Hiking: 10 km, 5 h, 800 m of positive elevation gain.
Today's hike follows the Queen's Trail from Nyksund to Stø, or, depending on conditions, in the opposite direction. This trail became famous in 1994 thanks to Queen Sonja, who was captivated by it during a visit to the Vesterålen islands. Since then, the route has been known as the "Dronningruta" (Queen's Trail). The path through the mountains offers breathtaking views in every direction. Alternatively, you can choose the coastal path (approximate walking time: 3 hours). Both routes lead to the fishing village of Stø and can be combined to form a circular route (approximate total length: 15 km, approximate cumulative elevation gain: 1080 m). During your stay in Vesterålen, you also have the option of participating in a whale and seabird safari. This day trip offers, among other things, the opportunity to observe sperm whales. Participation is optional and is offered as an alternative to the regular program (approximate cost: €130).

Day 5
To the Lofoten archipelago
Today we travel from the Vesterålen Islands to the Lofoten Islands. On our way to our next accommodation, we'll make a stop in Sortland, also known as the "blue city". One of the highlights of the day is the journey on a Hurtigruten ship along one of the most scenic stretches of the route. The journey takes you through the Raftsund strait and into the famous Trollfjord. Before boarding in Stokmarknes, you'll have the opportunity to visit the Hurtigruten Museum. There, you can discover the fascinating history of Hurtigruten, polar exploration, and even see the former Hurtigruten ship "Finnmarken," built in 1993. The boat departs around 3:00 PM and arrives in Svolvær around 6:30 PM. After a short drive, you will arrive at your accommodation near Kabelvåg. From there, both Svolvær and Kabelvåg are easily accessible; both towns offer a variety of galleries, museums, and an aquarium to explore.

Day 6
Excursion to Matmora
Hiking: 5-6 hours, 900 meters of positive elevation gain.
Today we'll tackle the highest peak of our trip: Matmora, at 788 meters. Our route begins with a steep climb of about 400 meters to the summit of Delphen. From there, the slope becomes more manageable, and we gradually approach the main summit. Once at the summit, we enjoyed a breathtaking panoramic view of the northern Lofoten mountains. On a clear day, the view extends to the snow-capped peaks of Møysalen National Park and, on the other side, to the Vesterålen archipelago. The descent is steep again at the top, but then transforms into long, gentle switchbacks that make the journey much easier.

Day 7
Circumnavigation of Stor-Kongsvatnet
Hiking: 12 km, 3-4 hours, 250 m of positive elevation gain.
After yesterday's ascent to the summit, today we're taking it easy; there's no summit in our plans this time. Instead, we'll take a walk around Stor-Kongsvatnet. Although the pace is more relaxed, there's still some elevation gain. Anyone who wants to can extend the hike and explore the area in more detail. Alternatively, in the afternoon you could take a day trip to Kabelvåg. There, the museum, several galleries, and an aquarium offer a relaxing visit.

Hiking: 4 km, 4 h, 550 m of positive elevation gain.
Today we'll climb to Kleppstadheia, a picturesque viewpoint on the west coast of Austvågøya Island, right next to the bridge leading to Gimsøy. From the top, we'll enjoy a breathtaking view of the east coast of the central and southern Lofoten Islands. On a clear day, the view even extends to the rocky islands of Mosken and Værøy, accessible only by boat, which mark the southernmost tip of the Lofoten archipelago. After the walk, we continued to Henningsvær, also known as the "Venice of the North." The view from the pier is not only popular with painters, who often choose it as a subject for their works. In the various cafes and two galleries, we can take a well-deserved break and soak up the atmosphere.

Day 9
Viking Museum and Queen
Our journey takes us via Leknes to the municipality of Flakstad, along a beautiful coastal road that constantly delights us with magnificent views. Halfway there, we arrive at the village of Borg, where the Viking Museum awaits. This museum is truly special: it features a reconstruction of the 90-meter-long longhouse that was the residence of an important Viking chieftain. Upon entering the house, illuminated by fireplaces and oil lamps, it almost feels as if we have been transported directly back to the Iron Age, around 900 AD. The museum's information section was completely redesigned in 2011 and, thanks to modern technology, offers us the opportunity to access detailed information about the exhibits. As night fell, we arrived at our next accommodation in Reine. This lively fishing village is known not only for its picturesque location on the Arctic Ocean, but also for the majestic peaks of the Lofoten Islands that frame it.

This area was once inhabited, and today we can enjoy the peace and beauty of the surroundings. If visibility is good and we still have energy, we recommend the technically easy ascent to Ryten. From there, we'll enjoy wonderful views of the beautiful beaches and the northern parts of the islands of Moskenes and Flakstad. The ascent requires an additional 3 hours of hiking and involves a 500-meter elevation gain and loss.

Day 14
Free day
This day is entirely at our disposal, and we can design it according to our own wishes. Optionally, we can take a kayaking excursion or a boat trip on the Reinefjord. From the jetty in Vinstad, one of the most remote villages in Lofoten, a 45-minute walk leads to a sandy beach on the uninhabited edge of the Lofoten Islands. In the afternoon, the boat returns from Vinstad to Reine. We can also explore the area on our own, go fishing, or simply relax. The Eva Harr Gallery, located in the old school in Reine, is also worth a visit.
