  • Day 2
    Vilnius – Trakai – Kaunas

Vilnius city tour (UNESCO World Heritage Site) • Užupis artists' quarter • Trakai Island Castle • Kaunas city tour

The program starts today. At 9:00 AM, you'll meet your tour guide and fellow travelers at reception. Afterwards, you'll get to know the "Pearl of the Baroque": On a city tour, you'll see the impressive sights of the Lithuanian capital (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) – the Gate of Dawn, Pilies Street with its monuments from the 16th to 18th centuries, the Gothic St. Anne's Church, and the Town Hall Square. In contrast, you'll then discover the creative artists' quarter of Užupis, where numerous artists have settled and now present exhibitions and theatrical performances. Once a poor suburb, Užupis is now one of the most sought-after districts of Vilnius. Afterwards, you leave Vilnius for Kaunas. En route, you'll stop in Trakai, the former capital of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. During a leisurely, approximately one-hour boat trip, you'll enjoy views of the picturesque red island castle dating back to the 14th century. On board, you'll sample the regional specialty, Kibinai – filled dumplings, traditionally served with broth. Next, we travel to Kaunas, Lithuania's second-largest city, where the country's two longest rivers, the Neris and the Nemunas, converge. A guided tour of the Old Town will introduce you to the Town Hall Square lined with merchants' houses, the 13th-century castle ruins, the Perkunas House, and the Vytautas Church. You can spend the evening enjoying dinner at one of the city's many restaurants (not included). Overnight. (B/L) (Distance traveled: approx. 110 km; travel time: approx. 1.5 hours)

  • Day 4
    Curonian Spit

Take the ferry to the Curonian Spit (UNESCO World Heritage Site) • Hill of Witches • Thomas Mann House • Amber Gallery

Today you'll discover a special natural gem: the Curonian Spit, a UNESCO World Heritage Site nestled between the Curonian Lagoon and the Baltic Sea. You'll take the ferry across to the long, narrow peninsula. Your first stop is the legendary Hill of Witches in Juodkrantė, where, since 1979, over 80 intricately carved wooden figures have lined a path, depicting characters from Lithuanian fairy tales and legends. Afterwards, the journey continues to Nida, a charming artists' village with colorful wooden houses, the gentle murmur of the Baltic Sea, and the highest dunes in Northern Europe. You will visit Thomas Mann's former summer house, now a museum about his life and work, and the Amber Gallery, where you will learn a great deal about the origin, significance, and processing of "Baltic gold." Another highlight is the hike up the Parnidis Dune, one of the highest shifting dunes in Europe. You can climb steps from Nida's old town to the top, where a breathtaking view of the surrounding landscapes and the neighboring "High Dune" awaits. On your way back to the ferry, you'll stop at a lesser-known, but particularly peaceful dune. During a walk along the beach, your guide will tell you more about the rich tradition and role of amber in Baltic culture. Afterwards, you can relax on the beach, listen to the sound of the waves, and enjoy the moment before taking the ferry back to Klaipėda. For those who would like to end the evening in style, the city offers several rooftop bars and restaurants with panoramic views – your guide will be happy to provide recommendations.
