A day in Tallinn
Day 17
After breakfast, a guided tour will introduce you to the most important historical sights of the old town: the fully preserved 14th-century city wall with its impressive defensive towers, the imposing Toompea Castle, which now houses the Estonian Parliament, the old cathedral (exterior visit) and the charming Town Hall Square, the heart of the old town, surrounded by magnificent old merchant houses. In the afternoon, you'll have time to explore Tallinn further on your own – the creative Kalamaja district is particularly inviting. This area is known for its vibrant cultural scene, colorful wooden houses, and artistic atmosphere. Start at Telliskivi Creative City, a former industrial area now a modern hub for design, culture, and innovation, with its small shops, studios, galleries, and cozy cafes. The street art is especially worth seeing. Another tip is Balti Jaama Turg, a large, diverse market in the heart of Kalamaja with fresh produce, regional specialties, and handcrafted products. (F)
Day 18
Excursion to Lahemaa National Park
hike
Today we're heading back out into nature, to Lahemaa National Park. It boasts a diverse landscape with pristine beaches, rivers, waterfalls, and bogs, and is home to over 200 bird species and around 900 plant species. You'll visit the magnificent Sagadi Manor (exterior view only) with its rich flora and some of Estonia's oldest oak trees. Afterward, you'll stroll through the 400-year-old fishing village of Altja, built in typical North Estonian style, where all the houses line a single village street and you'll see two traditional coastal farms. Finally, you'll take a short hike along boardwalks through a mystical bog and marsh landscape. Afterwards, you'll return to Tallinn. To conclude your trip, you'll visit a local restaurant in the evening and reminisce about your journey over a memorable farewell dinner. (B/L/D) (Distance traveled: approx. 185 km; travel time: approx. 2.5 hours)
